With a current membership of 33 we are a busy and active group of ladies. Our branch works hard to help members of our Local, Coastal, State Wide and International communities by raising funds, making items for distribution, running workshops and advocacy.
Catering is our main fundraiser with Bunnings stalls and 2 yearly raffles adding to our total of over $25,000 donated to charity last year both locally and State Wide.
We use our ‘creativity’ to produce knitted blankets, baby clothes, beanies and trauma teddies, on going throughout the year and periodically run one-off working B’s to help our community, like neckerchiefs for a local scout group and reusable sanitary wear for islander women.
Monthly officer reports, baking competition entries, guest speakers and lots of planning for craft and money raising dominate our monthly meetings.
We have fun socially too, with theatre and cinema visits, walks, morning or afternoon teas, BBQ’s, 3 potluck dinners at the rooms, and card nights, as well as our Birthday celebration, Xmas dinner and Xmas BBQ.
We have 2 of our members on the Group Committee and 2 at State. Many of us attend the annual State Conference and there are usually a few people go to the state Agriculture and Environment, the International, and the Handicraft Seminars. We are members of the ACWW (Associated Country Women of the World) and several of our girls have been involved in their triennial conferences worldwide.
We run workshops at several libraries, and in local schools. We also support 6 of our local schools with $500 donations each to be used to enable disadvantaged kids to attend extra curricular activities like camps, and one schools special unit with a ‘Paws Therapy course. 4 Women’s shelters have also been assisted with cash donations and goods.
Does this sound like an organisation YOU would like to be part of? We would certainly love you to come and check us out without any obligation to join, although we hope you would. Please contact our secretary for more information or just to introduce yourself.
